Mac: When did you realize you wanted to become a behavior analyst?
Mike: Well, I went to school to be a teacher and then towards the end of college I kind of realized I didn't want to be a teacher and I decided that I wanted to become a behavior analyst because I get to work directly with the kids one on one, and devote a lot of attention to each kid at one time.
Mac: If you weren't a behavior analyst what do you think you would do?
Mike: I would be a smoke jumper! I would jump out of planes and fight forest fires!
Mac: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
Mike: Outside of work I like to snowboard in the winter, I like to go hiking and camping in the summer, and then I also like to take photos, and I do a lot of work on my house. It's a very old house and it needs a lot of work. I'm doing a lot of renovations.
Mac: What was the educational path that led you to becoming a behavior analyst?
Mike: Well I went to school to become a teacher. I studied special education. And then I kinda got into ABA. I started as an RBT, a technician, and while I was doing that I went back to school and studied to be a behavior analyst.
Mac: What is your favorite part about ABA?
Mike: My favorite part is seeing every kid get one step closer to being independent. That might look like being able to communicate a little bit better or to be able to develop life skills or job skills, but getting one step closer to progressing.
